Navigating Medicare is a challenge for so many households, and Jellyvision wanted to offer a solution similar to their most successful product (ALEX Benefits Counselor). ALEX Medicare grew from a desire to help both individuals and organizations better understand the complex world of Medicare, and help retirees get the best healthcare for their budget. When released it received great acclaim and even won a Chicago Innovation Award.

Style Guide

Our audience wanted clear, trustworthy information on Medicare, delivered in a format that respects their time, attention, and unique challenges as an older demographic undergoing a major life event. Our response was to make big art that is present, clear and acknowledges them with mature colors and form.

 

Videos

When surveyed, our demographic expressed that videos were their choice of format when learning new information. With this in mind we created an interactive experience that contained detailed questions and short, digestible videos that guided users through Medicare education as well as the enrollment process. This also allowed users to pause, review or skip past any information that they wanted. We also made sure the writing and VO was approachable, relatable and didn’t speak down to users.

 

Storyboards

I worked very closely with the lead writer and motion designer to produce all the videos for ALEX Medicare by creating storyboards. My storyboards feature full fidelity art assets, the writer’s final script, and animation direction (specifically beat timing). They became our map of the entire experience by maintaining our original vision, providing clear direction for production and ensuring overall quality before any animating even began. Pictured are the final production boards for the dreaded “Medicare Donut Hole,” a very complex and confusing part of Medicare. These boards went through several rounds of reviews across multiple departments, and I’m pleased that we were able to distill such a complex subject into a mere 20 panels.

 

Interactive Experience

At this stage of life, our demographic notices that how others perceive them has changed. They are dealing with big ideas, they suspect being under valued and they begin to feel invisible. So Jellyvision was more than proud to offer a product that simplifies navigating Medicare. In fact, ALEX Medicare continues to grow with more features like a plan recommender, a doctor finder and continued updates to deal with the changing landscape of Medicare.

Marketing Support

There were several 360 marketing campaigns to promote ALEX Medicare and its advantages. I was able to create some fun headers and banners for email and social media platforms. I have to say that custom collateral that fits within your style guide brings a nice parity to your branding and marketing – and it sure beats stock photos any day.
